ORWO Film Growing Pains and Film Legacy

Posted by

I set up ORWO NA over a decade ago when I met Herr Redmann (Rainer Redmann) and formed a legacy partnership with FilmoTec GmbH.  The obvious reason as a young business man, was for commerce development, the other was b/c of my extreme interest in ORWO as a legacy brand, as a product that has seen hell and back, and it's relentless value as a quality film (since FilmoTec circa 1990's).  ORWO's history is sordid, vast, and amazing at the same time.  Google "ORWO", and check out how deep it goes.  However, all historical rabbit holes aside, the scope of ORWO stems from the heart, as a true preservation super hero, "The Immortalizer" one could call it. The last survivor at the end of the world...

The physical process of preserving and archiving film, sound, images, etc, using the ORWO catalog of "bulletproof", black-and-white, industrial film, is a it's foundation, and most important.  It takes tremendous experience, and skill to attempt and succeed in properly preserving film.  The kicker is that theres only a few folks left in the world that can do it, but that's for another time.  However, those with the skills have stood the test of time, ColorLab, Fotokem, Cinemalab, Cinemarts, Eastman, FilmoTec, even ORWO NA...not many left.  Regardless, we all understand our mission, preservation.

ORWO Film preserves history.

All civilized nations mandate that their cultural heritage and relevance must be preserved and archived for future generations, be it our current generation, the one-yet-to-be-born, or the aliens that one day stumble across our r-wild world.  It makes one realize, philosophize, and understand that it is our duty, as civilized beings, to preserve our civilization, the best way we know, and that's data storage.  Surprise!

Film, to this day is the longest lasting data storage medium available.  Not to mention the most efficient, and accessible.  This is why The US Library of Congress, and multiple partners of ORWO NA have chose ORWO film to preserve their history.  We have worked closely with the US LOC since the beginning.  For over a decade now thousands of movies, films, digital and analog, as well as music catelogs, sound recordings, images, or anything you hear on NPR, to mention a few, have been stored on ORWO film...it's an amazing thought.   This is why ORWO North America exists.  This is why we will always exist. to preserve our culture.  To preserve the Original WOlfen, to maintain the legacy.

Need anything, email us, info@orwona.com...  in the meantime, Shoot everything...
